Eco Chic NewsWire

Eco Chic product News

I have had the most wonderful Birthday month, and for my presents my adoreable friends brought me some really fine eco gifts. I don’t do as many product reviews as I used too, as the market is so flooded. But I thought these were such fine products that I just had to make an exception. Also with regards to the eco handbag, there are some pretty important issues that I mention regarding water supply and organic cotton. So this is what persuaded me to write the reviews. I hope you enjoy them! Thanks for a great Birthday everyone!

For my favourite RAW chocolate, please see EcoChicLife.co.UK, in the Eco Sexy Bodies section in Real Fashion, for the low down on Cocao chocolate and its health benefits. So usually I adore the RAW chocolate company based in Brighton. The latest RAW choccy favourite has been made by Conscious Chocolate, Fruit Fantasy, and other magic products in the range also have been tasted and are very scrummy, It’s a thicker taste, and more unrefined to the RAW chocolate co. But it has all the beautiful hand-made touches and natural ingredients, is pesticide free, Gluten Free, Sugar free, Gluten free approved too.

ECO handbags! Apart from very chic catwalk eco designs from Vivienne Westwood, or ethical RAFE from Hong Kong, my latest bag was from The Hemp Store in Camden. A handbag made by Braintree, and this little hemp bag is made from 55% HEMP and 45% organic Cotton. Although my views on organic Cotton, unless twinned with a conscious ethical water system and as long as it doesn’t take over ground and underground supplies - which affect any local communities water supplies- which can sadly be the case with organic cotton farming. But Organic Cotton in my opinioin is much better for planet, and the people producing and milling the cotton plant, so it gets my approval.

There is the also very valid argument that for people working on such organic cotton farms, have a much less polluted environment and have substantial local community benefits, as many of the organic farms are part of a bigger local philanthropic approach to local community, and provide benefits in other ways, But it is the ultimate goal, to balance water and people interests at all times. There is no point for the organic cotton we buy in the UK, and in the West to make us feel better, if the local people from where the raw material was scoured drained the local water supplies beyond capacity for agricultural use and indigenous local peoples water supplies become too low to sustain the communities that the organic cottin trade is wishing to help. The bag though is very girlie, so very cute, and is definitely my favourite. Eco Fibre Fashion, affordable, and in Camden – just on the Camden Lock in London. The long term benefits will be great for the planet as its a huge step in the right direction.

Eco Chewing GUM – CHIZA produce fine Organic MAYAN Rainforest chewing gum. It comes in biodegradable packaging, which is very earthy and beautiful. I adore eco packaging, it seems so much more care has been put into the style and pictorial design, and this one is a winner.

The information on the package say’s the following, and I think this is a great way to end this snippet of product reviews–
"Natural Gum base’s main ingredient is latex, sustainably obtained from tall chicozapote trees in the Mayan Rainforest, of the Gran Peten in south-eastern Mexico. Chicza is a radically different chewing gum base, along with wild and native fruits, herbs and spices. Chewing Chicza contributes to the conservation of the Mayan rainforests, and at the same time improves the livelihoods of the proud chicleros and their families”

The history of Eco Chic as Definitive Marketing tool

Eco Chic is a term or phrase used in context to describe ethical fabulous living.

This was first used in Los Angeles as a phrase commonly used within the fashion and music industry from 2002. There was an underlying trend from the 70's pioneers to make their mark in clothes, homes, ladies makeup, to almost anything you can think of. These people have seen the 80's Baby Boom generation make the demand for Green luxury, (and the 70's pioneers have totally inspired a generation for this lifestyle, and lead the way on how to achieve this). They have made and developed items for a mainstream Eco Chic market for real price goods. Ranging from high end premier global brands, to ethical smaller gorgeous hand made, and affordable products. It includes fair trade, socially responsible, and ethically aware raw materials, or ethical foundations for people and/or planet, that are a key part of the products company ethos.

The term is now commonplace in America and the UK, and is useful in Glossy magazines to catch the attention of the conscious consumer and is a crucial part of a social "green" movement. Eco Chic is the term used by many in 2009 as a commercial tag for business that wishes to have an ethical tone.

Fashion Designer Icon, Linda Loudermilk is one of the pioneers of Luxury eco TM. http://www.lindaloudermilk.com/stamp.html

This term is used within the Eco Chic Los Angeles catwalk collections - every Spring with new collections of eco wear. London Fashion Week has also now used this term for their new collections.

Other famous American pioneers include Danny Seo, who has dedicated his work to clearing homes and people of unwanted harmful chemicals in items such as bedding, perfumes, and is a style and interior design and space Guru. He is in the definitive list of Eco Chic Gurus, listed here at:

The fashion world has made huge changes in making sure that its new collections are made from sustainable and fair trade materials. Edun is another line of ethically fabulous conscious designer wear.

Arthus Yann Bertrands latest movie "Home" that was released for World Environment Day also has many sponsors that are design and couture based that are also known as Eco Chic brands. Google "HOME the movie" which can be seen online at YOUTUBE.com. It is incredible.

The social movement is in the UK very much down to awareness of the Climate Change issue’s that affect our everyday lives. The Body Shop is a retail pioneer in this movement with the Late Dame Anita Roddick's Book, "Business As UNusual".

http://www.amazon.com/Business-Unusual-Triumph-Anita-Roddick/dp/0722539878

This inspiring Business book has many pieces on ethical living. Even though this is a market that is especially designed for women, The interest in L'Eco Homme Summer edition published by EcoChicLife, proves that this is a growing market for male readers. The mainstream press have also used this term over the last year, to the extent it is now somewhere every week in the glossies and broadsheets. In Vogue, in the UK Edition’s, there have been several high profile feature articles named Eco Chic. Another magazine, The London Magazine, (edition February 2009) has a section called Eco Chic Yummy Mummies. Here they reference the top five Eco Chic places you can find the Yummy Mummy in Chelsea, London and Knightsbridge.

The biggest reference source of Eco Chic Destinations, fashion and products to date was produced in May 2008, in the UK version of Marie Claire. http://www.marieclaire.co.uk/news/fashion/281749/marie-claire-scoops-ethical-award.html

For eco excitement and to be brought up to date with the fastest eco car in the world in developement check Dale Vince's interview, a featured article, and also one of the finest UK Eco Chic Pioneers:

Eco Finance Article publication September 2009

It is a long article that I am writing at the moment, that I want you to know about. I am still working hard at the eco chic party planning for late 2009 events that I hope will be held in London.

Yet, at the moment my attention is firmly on the Eco Finance article that I promised at my Lainston House event in May that it would be published in September. At the heart of the piece I will take you to a futuristic journey where global finance and eco corporate policy mix (CSR). Or, in the famous words of the late Dame Anita Roddick, it is something called “Ethical Auditing” – which in the article, I will quote her, and the work at The Body Shop. Anita’s own ethical auditing has come along way since her invention, so much so, that is now being undertaken by many companies across the globe. I will look at the strides made by corporate bodies at the moment, and a look the future of our climate, which scares me to bits if I am honest.

It is hard though as I write, in the middle of the summer holidays to get all the R&D needed to complete the article, but having made the promise to unearth the true scope of international policy, and with Copenhagen's conference in the very near future, I am absolutely determined to offer solutions where finance and eco policy can mix. It is no ordinary article that I write, as I am an optimist. Also I believe the solutions are within our grasp to make huge strides in the Kyoto 2 framework (2012), with the policies and leaders with the solutions digging away looking at all sorts of possibilities that may be easier to help us and our planet survive.

I will keep you posted as to my progress, and I seriously hope that I offer companies that are offering forward thinking implementation of strategy within their own groups, and also simple ways that we all can grasp the "how" we can all lead a more ethical and sustainable lives for us and our future generations.

Eco Chic Events

It has been a wonderful year for Eco Chic. We have had three highly enjoyable eco evenings in very prestigious surroundings and locations, in and around the City of Winchester already this year.

My warmest thanks go to our keynote speakers and our gorgeous chic guests for attending our planet and love evenings.

The demand for our events is very exciting, and as the Eco Chic spokesperson in the UK, I have been absolutely overwhelmed with all our guests’ questions and wholehearted support. I work with the focus on bringing premier brands to my guest’s attention, whom as global companies are bringing many wonderful products and ethical and fair-trade associations to market. I research carefully as editor of ecochiclife.co.uk and also of our published eco chic magazine, and our own new men's eco magazine, only to ensure the most ethical of the companies and brands are shown to our amazing guests.

Our recent Winchester and Alresford eco evenings have just been inspiring to me and our guests. I have seen many new networks and friendships flourish. Our Power Business Network (PBN), as part of the Eco Chic magazine that I print for our Guests, is part of the evenings focus, and we also have all our names and friends and local business’s that support our evenings, contact details in the magazine. This is proving over the last six months a huge success. PBN wants us to use and shop with local services, and asks us to make as much business "local" as possible. This is really working well and I am thrilled to see the connections made at our evenings continue every time we all meet. I have also seen and kept in touch with most of our guests’ and have seen you all chatting away on the phone, organising to meet up, or helping each other with business solutions big and small. This is just thrilling, and inspires me to see the PBN in full swing, working on a phenomenally successful level. With the financial strains in the global market, to see this working is heart warming.

The fact is we can adopt a lower carbon lifestyle, buy locally and support ethical brands, premier and global. These eco events are really showing us all that the Eco Chic evenings make real connections to real people. They make more business, more local contacts and ultimately were all having a ball at these amazing evenings. Whilst saving the Planet is the key to all of us attending - the notes I am getting, the emails, and my friends I adore from my special guests, to global financiers, to world music artists. I am just overjoyed to see the "real" vision that I have spoken so passionately about for seven years become a reality. The global products, premier brands, department stores, to the little organic farms in Cornwall, it is a joy to watch this underlying social change in a movement, joining together, that in my eyes is an undeniable change in social core values.

The planet saving people, and there are many of them, are looking forward to a new age, of technological solutions, social networks and core clean technology solutions to help make the world more sustainable for us to live in, harmoniously, with the animals of the earth. It is a great time to be alive. To help facilitate the changes we all need for a happier planet.

The world needs change, and whether it’s Harrods, TAG Heuer, The Organic Pharmacy, Ecotricity, IBM, implementing global solutions, or our world’s major banks. Every person infected with the passion for OUR ONE PLANET, is making real changes for good. It is the most exciting time, and I am honoured to be able to help, inform and assist as many as I can to understand that ECO CHIC is a lifestyle journey. The steps we all make, whether through our TWITTER connections, FB, friends, or just at one of my eco events, is making the word spread virally, online and offline. There is a huge pace and rapid change in all our thinking and every tiny or huge action through our roles is making this happen, here and now - and this to me is what is important. There are many chosen to help the planet, and I am honoured also to be part of this huge wheel of change. It inspires me every day.

Thank you for attending if you have already been. If you wish for me to personally attend an event, to do a keynote speech, or simply to advise as a consultant at your own eco event, or help to implement Eco Chic marketing solutions to your business, please contact me personally and I will only be to happy to help assist you. Through the seven year journey of mine, I have met so many great people. My keynote speakers have really dug deep into helping us learn and become more attached to nature, and natural alternatives, using hollistic "out of the box thinking" - visualisation techniques, and many exciting magical ways to help us feel great and more energised. This revitalises us, helps us develope and also makes us realise, it is us, it is within us, our grasp, us, we are real people, WE ARE NATURE -and we are THE starting point for great change.

The keynote speeches are integral to our learning, and I am honoured to be in such fine company at our evenings. I do so very much hope to be able to meet you personally one day, and so that we can inspire change and so that we can inspire change together.
